| Note | This exceptional, massive GIANT – the LARGEST and BEST of the JES Collection – is one of the extraordinary specimens collected during the 1990s Colombia trawlings. Such monumental examples are now highly coveted ‘collector’s items’. Exceedingly large size, approaching the limit for the subspecies. Ultra-rich and beautiful colour. Spectacular dorsal and marginal pattern. Incredible weight to size ratio; well-developed dorsal protruberances; white nacre accretion to margins – all signs of hypermaturity in this form. Ultra-inflated, ‘fat’ form. No longer freshly collected like this, and now obtainable only from the choicest old collections. A bicornis for the Cypraeidae connoisseur. Data: Off Punta Espada, Uribia, La Guajira, Colombia; upon sand/mud substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1997. Size: 59.2 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
