Item | # 0003490769 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Cypraea mus int. bicornis - INTERMEDIATE GIANT , Linnaeus, C., 1758 / Sowerby II, G.B., 1870 |
Size | 54.6 mm |
Locality | Venezuela |
Note | This enormous and highly unusual specimen is the most beautiful mus I have ever seen. Massive and incredibly heavy for mus, it tends towards bicornis, exhibiting one of the two ‘horns’ which separate it from the nominate subspecies, yet the overall colour, pattern, and shape are those of more typical mus. Ultra-rich colour. Dorsal pattern of the highest aesthetic merit. A shell which can only be fully appreciated ‘in the hand’. A very special shell for the dedicated collector of mus variants. Data: Amuay Bay, Paraguana Peninsula, Falcón State, Venezuela; upon sand/rubble substrate, amongst sea grass, (Caribbean turtlegrass; Thalassia testudinum), and bivalve bed; 7 m; dived; 1996. Size: 54.6 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
