Family | OTHER |
Name | Ficus gracilis - SPECIAL COLOR , G. B. Sowerby I, 1825 |
Size | 113.7 mm |
Locality | Philippines |
Note | F+++/GEM. A PATTERNED GRACILIS. The Ficus gracilis is one of, if not, “the” largest Ficus on the planet. It is a rather deep living species which is seldom collected by divers. Most are caught by trawls. The holotype has been shown by Higo, Callomon & Goto (2001) and is a very pale piece of 112 mm, without any pattern. Here one of the best gracilis ever, possible THE best shell, with a strong pattern of axial lines with pleasing interaction with the spiral sculpture. Museum level quality. For the connoisseur of aesthetic shells.
Philippines. Offshore deep water in north Bohol, taken by fishermen of Nocnocan Island. 2014.
