Item | # 0003843865 | Family | OTHER | Name | Zemacies queenslandica - RARE; RARE QUALITY , Powell, 1969 |
Size | 52.9 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This singular, deep-water, endemic Queensland species, discovered in the mid twentieth century, remained very rare until several specimens were obtained during the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls. However, upon account of the fragile nature of the shell, the overwhelming majority of those examples obtained suffered substantial damage during the trawling process. The current specimen, by contrast, is of the finest possible quality for the species, incorporating retention of the delicate, glassy, mammillate protoconch. Now very difficult to obtain, coming only from choice old collections. Definitely for the Pseudomelatomidae / Turridae specialist, or admirer of rare and exquisite seashells. Data: Off Cape Moreton, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-120 m; trawled; 1983. Size: 52.9 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
