AN UPPERMOST GORGEOUS SEA URCHIN FROM THE DEPTHS OF SIQUIJOR. From the extensive family CIDARIDAE, which populate the deeper parts of the coastal waters. The CIDARIDAE are especially found on the continental shelves, as a consequence they are occasionally caught many hundreds of meters deeper. The Goniocidaris clypeata, with its trumpet-like spines, has been recorded from Japan and the Philippines. Sagami Bay is the Japanese locality where we have good records from, and in the Philippines, some have been found in Balut Island, Balicasag and in Siquijor. Always below 150 m deep, most often below 200 m. There is little doubt that this is the most spectacular of the Goniocidaris, a genus which has about a dozen species. And even: it is one of the most spectacular of all sea urchins. The present piece is a very fine clypeata from the depths of Siquijor. It is a true jewel. We will take the greatest care in sending this jewel, but if one of the spines breaks of, it is to re-glue on the responsibility of the buyer.
