Item | # 0003875163 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Cypraea cervus cf lindseyi - OUTSTANDING , Petuch, 2013 |
Size | 77.4 mm |
Locality | USA |
Note | This spectacular specimen is strongly suggestive of a geographical connection between a restricted population of C. cervus in the extreme South of Florida, and that which exists in Cuba. As only around 90 miles separates the two localities, such a relation almost certainly exists. The specimen is markedly similar in form, colour, and pattern to its Cuban counterparts, most notably in the nature of the large, pale, coalescent dorsal maculae. Beautiful, fully stable colour. PERFECT anterior terminal flanges. An elusive form, now extremely difficult to obtain, for the advanced Cypraeidae specialist who wishes to further study the relationship between these two populations. Data: Boynton Inlet, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA; upon reef substrate, under slab; 15-18 m; dived; July 2000. Size: 77.4 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
