| Note | If assigned the locality of ‘Marshall Islands’, this diminutive shell would readily be accepted as C. gaspardi, but the specimen was assuredly collected in very deep water in the central Philippines. This exquisite little member of the Cribrarula accords extremely well with the quintesstial characteristics of C. gaspardi: very small size; very fine shell; markedly elongate form; pale colour; eroded dorsal pattern. A tantalising problem concerning a rare and beautiful deep-water shell for the advanced Cypraeidae specialist to resolve. Data: Off Panglao, Bohol, Philippines; upon sand/mud substrate; 150-200 m; tangle nets; 1989. Size: 15.7 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
