| Note | This incredibly colourful specimen was collected over half a century ago, during the old days of New Caledonian availability. Yellowish-ivory ground, with purplish chocolate maculae, and a large, central region of rich rust-ochre melanism. SOLID and HEAVY, with pronounced marginal and ventral callosity. Exemplary quality for this form, with far fewer and less prominent typical nacre issues than usually seen. Well-curated over the decades, with now fully stable colour. No longer collected, coming only from choice old collections. Data: Baie d’Oro, Île de Pin, South Province, New Caledonia; upon coral reef substrate, under coral slab, at low tide; 1977. Size: 74 mm.
