Family | Volutidae |
Name | Amoria turneri - DEEP-WATER FORM; SUPERB , Gray, 1834 |
Size | 56.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A spectacular large specimen of the deep-water form, collected during the legendary 1970s Taiwanese trawling operations undertaken off the northern coast of Australia. Dense, well-formed pattern of particular beauty. Rich colour: yellowish cream ground, traversed by fine axial lines of caramel, and with two broad spiral bands of nebulous maculations of reddish ochre. One restricted area of loss to the anterior canal the only reason for a ‘Fine++’ grading. Very difficult to obtain this form now, coming only from old collections. Data: Off northern Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 100-300 m; trawled; 1970s. Size: 56.4 mm. Grading: Fine++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
