| Note | An OUTSTANDING, ultra-large specimen, of very rare quality for this typically rough, delicate, extreme deep-water trawled shell. Luminous lemon and antique ivory, with fine, intricate markings in pale caramel. Being live-collected, and of such high quality, the jewel-like external surface sculpture is readily discernible. Retention of enormous translucent original operculum. A very rare shell, and one of the most beautiful of all trochids when seen like this. Family: Calliostomatidae. Data: Western Bay, off Waikawa Point, Mayor Island, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand; upon sand substrate; 320-360 m; dredged; 1988. Size: 58.7 mm. Grading: Fine+++; w/o.
