Item | # 0003878075 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila marginata ketyana novasuperba - ULTRA-RARE; EXCEPTIONAL |
Size | 45.8 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | One of the FINEST known specimens of this recently discovered, incredible DEEP-WATER form. An extremely rare and highly prized shell, rendered all the rarer by its exceptional, truly exquisite dorsal pattern. While some specimens of this form have larger, somewhat untidy looking maculae, the current specimen has evenly distributed, ultra-fine, dot-like maculae, creating a rare ‘bird’s egg’ stippling, which, presented upon a beautiful rich PINK dorsum, result in one of the most beautiful Zoila I have ever encountered. Extremely rare quality for the form – PERFECTION. The name ‘novasuperba’ is often unofficially applied to this spectacular form, upon account of its obvious affinity with the classic ‘superba’ which used to be found in shallower water. A UNIQUE shell, and an equally unique opportunity to acquire one of the most sought after of all Zoila. Data: West-South-West of Cape Cuvier, North-West of Bernier Island, Gascoyne Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate, amongst sparse sessile species; 84-85 m; May 2021. Size: 45.8 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
