| Family | Volutidae |
| Name | Notovoluta gardneri - SPECIAL COLOUR; BIG , Darragh, 1983 |
| Size | 85.8 mm |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | A superb ultra-large specimen, exhibiting atypically beautiful colour: luminous pale peach ground, decorated with pinkish white triangular markings, and two broad spiral bands of deep purplish chocolate markings. Exemplary quality for this usually very rough, deep-water trawled species, with just one typical, tiny predatory mark to the ventral side of an early whorl, and very minor trawl fraying to anterior – negligible in such a beautiful and atypical example. Definitely for the Volutidae specialist interested in unusual variants. Data: Off Lady Musgrave Island, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 120-240 m; trawled; 1982. Size: 85.8 mm. Grading: Fine++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
