Entodesma cuneatum Rare, Hard to Obtain
24 mm     Caldera, northern Chile     4,00 €
Item# 0003988907
FamilyBIVALVIA
NameEntodesma cuneatum - Rare, Hard to Obtain , J.E. Gray, 1828
Size24 mm
LocalityCaldera, northern Chile
NoteOne very nice specimen of the rare nestling bivalve Entodesma cuneata. This interesting Lyonsiidae bivalve has a weakly nacreous interior of the shell and distorted valves, as it lives inside communities of the tunicate Pyura chilensis, from which it is difficult to obtain as the Pyura communities are made of hard cellulose. This one is a very globose one, with very nice shell and periostracum. A very low initial price for a rare and interesting endemic bivalve from the southeastern Pacific.
