Twenty years ago deep-water hookah divers explored a little-known shipwreck off the coast of Negros Oriental, in the Philippines, whence several really OUTSTANDING rust-glazed Cypraea were obtained. The JES Collection was fortunate to acquire this superb arabica – one of the finest of those specimens found. The rust glaze is thickly and evenly distributed across the entire dorsum, and is of a particularly deep and beautiful shade, whilst the underlying dorsal pattern is supremely well-formed. Definitely for the admirer of exceptional rust-glazed Cypraea. Data: Off Bacong, Negros Oriental, Negros Island Region, Philippines; upon iron ore substrate, (shipwreck), upon coral reef, amongst corals and sponges; 45-50 m; dived; 2004. Size: 55.3 mm. Grading: Fine+++ (a few tiny, near invisible sand inclusions towards columellar margin). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
