Liguus fasciatus matecumbensis subscrenatus - VERY RARE FORM , Pilsbry, 1912

Note
A superb specimen, collected over half a century ago, of a VERY RARE form. The form, which existed within a single geographically restricted colony, has not been freshly collected for decades, and is now EXTINCT in its native habitat, surviving only in isolated artificially established, and protected colonies within the Everglades National Park. Specimens are now obtainable only from choice old collections. Pure white, with spiral bands of vivid green. PERFECT apertural lip. Typical natural lines. One of the most difficult to obtain of all fasciatus forms, no doubt lacking in many of even the most specialised Liguus collections, and the ONLY specimen of the JES Collection. Data: North-East region of Lower Matecumba Key, Florida Keys, Florida, USA; upon branch of hardwood tree, in forest region; 1962. Size: 42 mm. Grading: Fine+ (typical lines). Provenance: JES Collection, London / Melbourne.
