Note

Excellent sandstone orange pigmented dorsum, clean dorsal line and excellent nacre gloss highlight this unique mini-specimen. Unlike most azumai forms, this specimen has large spotting on the mid-dorsum and has very close morphological features consistent with it's larger guttata guttata cousin. The specimen shows large white lateral walls and margins, flawless extremities and a subdued brown infused base pattern. The shell does show noteworthy inflation of the columellar aspect. Again, a stronger array of dorsal spotting, which is uncommon for the subspecies, is present for this specimen. The shell was trawled at 140-150 meters off Taihou, East China Sea in 3/2012. The shell displays subtle blemishes. Grade: GEM minus.
