Conus gloriamaris - RARE; NEW AUST. LOCALITY , Chemnitz, 1777
Size
108 mm
Locality
Australia
Note
This EXCEPTIONAL, ultra-large, PERFECT specimen is the FINEST and most beautiful example yet collected from a RARE, newly discovered DEEP-WATER POPULATION off the northern coast of AUSTRALIA – a further range extension for this ‘classic’ species. Only a handful of these new Australian examples have been found, coming from extreme deep water – 400-500 m – the deepest habitat yet for the species. Markedly BROAD form – very wide at whorl periphery. Extremely rich colour. Intricate pattern of high aesthetic merit, formed with the utmost regularity and clarity. Retention of ultra-delicate pink protoconch – very important for the connoisseur. Definitely for the advanced Conidae specialist seeking a ‘BEST of the best’ example of this exciting new discovery. Data: Arafura Sea, off Darwin, Greater Darwin Region, Northern Territory, Australia; upon sand/mud substrate; 400-500 m; trawled; 2004. Size: 108 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
