In my long career I have acquired, and/or handled the sale of numerous major collections throughout the world. One of the earliest collections from which I acquired specimens was that of the renowned British collector Arthur Peter Hoblyn Oliver (1918-1984). I am sure many of us have, at an early stage in our collecting, owned a copy of the famous 1975 book ‘The Hamlyn Guide to Shells of the World’, (see above left image), the author of which was A.P.H. Oliver. In addition to its historical interest, the specimen comes from an uncommon locality, and will prove of interest to a Cypraeidae specialist upon this account. The original 1965 Oliver label accompanies the specimen. Data: Off Bedok, Tanah Merah, East Region, Singapore; upon reef substrate, under slab; July 1965. Size: 18.2 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
