Cypraea cumingi - BIG; RARE; THE BEST , Sowerby II, 1832
Size
18.5 mm
Locality
Society Islands
Note
The FINEST large specimen of this RARE and exquisite endemic Polynesian species I have ever encountered, exhibiting the most PERFECTLY formed dorsal pattern possible for the species: perfectly circular lacunae, encircled with darker colour, in conjunction with a PERFECT straight mantle line. SPECTACULAR labral margin. Very recently collected, it exhibits the freshest of colour, in a particularly beautiful shade. Resplendent thick gloss for a diminutive cowrie. A ‘BEST of the BEST’ fresh cumingi for the most discerning Cypraeidae connoisseur. Data: Tuatira Bay, off Tuatira Point, Tai,arapu-Est, Tahiti, Windward Islands, Society Islands; upon coral sand/rubble substrate, under dead coral fragment, upon outer slope of fringing reef; 24 m; dived; 2025. Size: 18.5 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
