NoteImpressive form, thick nacred and dorsal pattern-free specimen of this rare Australian deep water form. Remarkable shell with characteristic convex base, modestly depressed inflated oval body, and thick rounded margins. The kostini demonstrates mild cantaloupe orange pigmented and prominent extremities, soft ivory/gray-toned dorsal primary pigmentation with two light pastel blue embryonic bands complemented by a porcelain white base. Notable weight to size ratio (40.5 grams) complements this superb and significantly rare cowrie. Collected by ROV at 204 meters on flat sandy, shale/rubble substrate with sparse small sponges northwest of Rottnest Island, Western Australia circa 2022. The specimen shows a micro inclusion on the posterior columellar extremity margin and light, subtle/neglible growth folds on the posterior ramp and columellar dorsum/lateral wall not visisble in images. Grade: F+++/GEM.
