RARE GIANT MUSEUM PIECE!! ULTRA RARE SPECIES VIRTUALLY!! Very rare species and super hard to clean even if you are professional, this here is really intact. This species are some how very deep most of the year and a few times you can find them in shallow waters if you are lucky. Most of the time are solitary but a few time some groups are rarely found between. They can be about 90m deep and 1m in rare situations of worm waters inside lagoons, but it is so hard to get a singe one. The Cushion Sea Urchin, Astropyga pulvinata (Lamarck, 1816), is a member of the Diadematidae Family of Sea Urchins. Astropyga is one of seven genera in this Family and there are four species within this genus. This species is also known as the Crown Urchin or Pin Cushion Urchin. In Mexico, the Cushion Sea Urchin is known as Erizo Cojín. Absent in many collections and really beautiful unique green colored plates. Very rare Museum conditions, so hard to clean to get this results, they are very fragile when cleaning. Intact with superb high level conditions for the species. This unique sea urchin is so beautiful live making a lighting effect even during the day, with bluish and purplish color spots between the dense spines , the spines can be mixed between thick and thin spines like a hair. Gem. Found in mud between stones about 7m deep, Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico. April 2026. Value for this ultra rare species with green superb color : 200-300 euros.
