NoteAn EXCEPTIONAL ultra-large specimen of the Great Barrier Reef form of this majestic species. RARE QUALITY, incorporating preservation of the extremely delicate apex, lost upon the overwhelming majority of such large examples. Ultra-rich colour. Maculations formed with rare regularity and clarity. EXTREMELY RARE LOCALITY, now protected as the Whitsunday Islands National Park, with no fresh specimens being available in future. For the Terebridae specialist, or admirer of truly beautiful seashells. Data: Off Crayfish Beach, Hook Island, Whitsunday Islands, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon fine white coral sand substrate, 1.6 m beyond outer edge of fringing reef; 2 m; dived; 1988. Size: 141.2 mm. Grading: Fine++++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
