NoteA superb large specimen of the markedly broad, rotund, ultra-solid, ultra-heavy, KING ISLAND FORM. Beautiful colour. SPECTACULAR PATTERN. Exemplary quality for the species, habitat, locality, and collection method. Hypermature, with thickened apertural lip. Only collected from craypots during the 1970s-1980s, and now obtainable only from choice old collections. For the Volutidae specialist whose collection yet lacks this almost never offered form. Data: Bass Strait, off King Island, New Year Group, Tasmania, Australia; upon sand substrate; 50-70 m; craypotted; 1983. Size: 136.2 mm. Grading: Fine++ (one tiny predatory mark). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
