Cypraea guttata UNIQUE LACUNAE THE BEST
58.2 mm     Philippines     215,00 €
Item# 0004190536
FamilyCypraeidae
NameCypraea guttata - UNIQUE LACUNAE THE BEST , Gmelin, 1791
Size58.2 mm
LocalityPhilippines
NoteThis absolutely UNIQUE and SPECTACULAR ULTRA-LARGE specimen of the supremely elegant northern Philippines form – one of the finest of the JES Collection – exhibits the LARGEST and most PERFECTLY CIRCULAR dorsal lacunae I have ever encountered. Hypermature, with pronounced porcellaneous white marginal callosity. It is extremely difficult to obtain the northern form now, as almost all of the deep-water collecting in the Visayas has ceased. A rare opportunity for a Cypraeidae connoisseur to acquire a unique and beautiful guttata. (NOTE: The specimen is scheduled to be published in a featured article of mine in an upcoming issue of Beautiful Cowries Magazine.) Data: Off Oslob, Cebu, Philippines; upon sand/coral rubble substrate; 80-120 m; tangle netted; 2009. Size: 58.2 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
