By my precision calipers, at 155.7 mm, this INCREDIBLE GIANT just edges out the current official World Record Size of 155.4 mm, (although allowances must be made for the tolerances of individual sets of calipers). RARE QUALITY for such advanced age and size, and collection method, with none of the typical erosion, nor major growth disruptions which detract from the majority of examples. Yellowish cream ground, traversed by fine spiral bands of caramel. Definitely for the Buccinidae specialist, or collector of giant-sized shells. Data: Little Henty Reef, Apollo Bay, Barwon South-West region, Victoria, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40-60 m; craypot; 1987. Size: 155.7 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
