NoteAn OUTSTANDING extremely large specimen of the SOUTHERN FORM. Atypically broad and depressed for the southern form, this magnificent example could easily pass for a more northerly form, but was assuredly obtained during the ‘old days’ of deep-diving in the South. Exquisite honey ‘triple window’ dorsal pattern. Dark chestnut margins. Blackish chestnut ventrum. Hypermature, with massive marginal callosity, forming graceful, greatly undulating lines. Markedly upturned terminals, creating a classic ‘gondola’ form, with a ROSTRATE appearance. RARE LOCALITY – from the now EXTINCT Michaelmas Reef POPULATION. Data: Michaelmas Reef, Albany, Great Southern region, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge; 22 m; dived; 1996. Size: 54.1 mm. Grading: Fine++ (typical minor nacre issues). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
