This specimen comes from a population of shells that has been very scarcely sampled and studied, as it comes from a remote and hard to access locality off the coast of Jamaica; wether it represents a local form of Purpuriconus cardinalis or something else, remains to be determined by further studies. This is a representative specimen due to the condition of the lip, but given its rarity and virtual non-existence in the market, it is a very valuable piece for a serious cone specialist to have. It was collected in lobster traps set at 100 ft deep, likely crabbed (though the data doesn't specify this), in Pedro Bank, Jamaica.
