Zoila orientalis VERY RARE - KANGAROO IS.
53.7 mm     Australia     790,00 €
Item# 0004270598
FamilyCypraeidae
NameZoila orientalis - VERY RARE - KANGAROO IS. , Raybaudi, 1985
Size53.7 mm
LocalityAustralia
NoteOver the years, I have brought more outstanding examples of orientalis to auction than anyone else, but I have held back the few remaining specimens of the JES Collection, as the species has become less and less obtainable, and more and more desirable as the years have advanced, with no fresh examples having been collected now for almost three decades, and with the locality being long-protected under Marine Park status. Exceptional specimens have become highly prized ‘collector’s items’, and are now obtainable only when released from the choicest specialist Zoila collections. Superb dorsal pattern of multitudinous fawn-caramel maculae. Beautiful subtle colour, with distinct BLUISH register to labral margin – a rare phenomenon in orientalis. Hypermature, with greatly thickened shell walls, and pronounced marginal callosity. One further opportunity for a highly advanced Zoila collector to obtain an outstanding specimen of this much sought after, virtually never offered species. Data: Off Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island, South Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge; 28 m; dived; 1999. Size: 53.7 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
