NoteSome specimens found on California ship wrecks can have a superior extraordinary rusty pigmentation and this shell meets that description. This rusty chesnut cowrie is a super example, with a rusty/brown and burnt orange dorsum, black undulating halo and burnt orange/brown/greyish white painted lateral walls. The specimen has perfect anterior and posterior siphons with perfect China-white teeth and aperture. A lovely specimen in any major Cypraea collection. Collected on Scuba at 23-24 meters on the Star of Scotland wreck off Santa Monica Bay, California in 2/2024. The shell has a micro blister in the mid-dorsum and some mild micro-graininess on the anterior ramp. Grade: F+++/GEM.
